WELCOME TO THE
PALATINE CHILDREN’S CHORUS
SPRING 2010
DO RE MI CHOIR!
We’re pleased that you and your singer are part of our Chorus family. The Palatine Children’s Chorus is a 6-level choral program starting at age 4 with Sing with Me and extending through high school and even college. The Do Re Mi Choir director is Mrs. Melissa Laabs who also directs our Treble Choir.
Communicating with Each Other
We’ll communicate by email [bdramsden@comcast.net]. I do NOT share your email addresses please fill out the form on the check-in table. I will email you with reminders and calendar changes.
You can also call the PCC voicemail “Hotline” 847-705-5123 x281 with questions or to report your singer’s absence from a rehearsal. Of course you can speak to me before and after rehearsals.
Using our Website for Information You Need
You can find rehearsal, calendar, performance, and uniform information at www.thepcc.org. Click on Singers Center, then click on Do Re Mi. Also check the general calendar [use “month” setting]—DRM information is on there too.
When We Cancel Class
If we need to cancel a rehearsal at the last minute, I’ll email you [if I’m at home], update our website calendar, put it on the Hotline, and put signs on the doors of the Community Center.
If District 15 is closed because of weather, we’ll be “closed” too.
Signing In and Out of Class
Please remember to sign your singer in and out of class each week—this is a park district requirement--and check to see if we have any paperwork for you.
Concert Uniforms & Music
When the Do Re Mi’s perform, they wear white t-shirts with the DRM logo. Boys will wear nice black slacks, black socks, and black dress shoes. Girls will wear black skirts [any length], white anklets, and black dress shoes. We ask that girls wear their hair pulled back from their faces when they perform. If your singer needs a DRM shirt, please return the t-shirt order to us before Wednesday, February 24. Our singers perform all their music from memory, and our musical selections represent diverse languages, cultures, and faiths.
Instead of giving our youngest singers music, we provide you with lyrics sheets so you can review the words to their songs at home. These are yours to keep.
Attendance
We need our singers at rehearsal each and every week. They have lots of music and choreography to learn. Singers who have excessive absences may not be allowed to perform on April 28. If your singer will be absent, please email me or call the Hotline to let me know.
DRM Concert
Our fall session will end with the Do Re Mi and Treble Choirs’ formal concert on Wednesday, April 28, 7:00 at Cutting Hall. Only singers who are dressed in the proper concert uniform can perform. Before this concert, Do Re Mi’s will have 2 MANDATORY rehearsals at Cutting Hall, Apr. 20 and 27 (tentatively 4:15-5:15). We give you this information 3 months ahead of time so you can plan for these rehearsals. We also encourage you to come to the May 1st concert (4:00) to hear the other PCC choirs.
Rosters
I will be handing out DRM class rosters for parents to use to arrange carpooling and maybe play dates. If you do NOT want your child’s address and phone number listed, you MUST tell me by Wednesday, January 27 either by email, on the Hotline, or in a note in the sign-in table basket.
Final Notes...
We welcome parents into the rehearsal room during the first rehearsal only. After that, whether we’re in room 1C or Cutting Hall, we ask parents to wait in the hall, walk on the gym “shelf,” or do some errands while we rehearse.
While I work for the Palatine Park District, I don’t have an office there. I do most of my work at home. I’m only at the Community Center for rehearsals.
Once again, we welcome you to the Palatine Children’s Chorus family. More than 150 singers participate in our program. We’re glad you’re here!
